Fylde planning Centenary celebrations: can you help?

A group of friends met in the Ansdell Institute in February 1919 and, in the context of the end of the Great War, their thoughts turned to sport. The consensus was that they would form a football or a rugby club to fill their winter months. But which of the codes? The friends were split evenly so it was decided to toss a coin. 98 years later Fylde RFC is looking forward to celebrating its centenary as a famous club known throughout England and abroad.
The celebrations will begin in September 2019 and run through to the end of the 2019-20 season. Part of those celebrations will be to look back with pride to honour the thousands and thousands of players, including numerous internationals and British Lions, who have graced the distinctive claret, gold and white strip. But elite rugby is only part of the picture. Fylde is also a community club, situated in the heart of Lytham St Annes and playing a major part in sporting, social and economic life of the Borough. Providing opportunities for young people to play and spreading the word about the greatest of all team games, is part of its essential ethos.
The Club has established a planning group to mastermind these centenary celebrations chaired by one of its greats, Malcolm Phillips. This will involve a range of events including a special representative match, social events, a prestigious Ball and dinners to honour the foresight of the Club's founders in 1919 and all the players, officers, volunteers, members and supporters who have made this fantastic club what it is a hundred years on.
We are looking for volunteers to help us in the initial planning of these celebrations and then practical help through 2019-20.
